Sickle Cell Association of Richmond – OSCAR is a non-profit 501 (c) (3) community-based program providing services free of charge to Sickle Cell patients and their families. The organization:

Provides monthly mailings and e-mails to clients of sickle cell information, news, uplifting messages, “Birthday” and “Thinking of You” cards.

Assists client families in their efforts to obtain needed community resources.

Provides financial assistance to clients in need.

Sponsors educational seminars for churches, schools, social and civic groups medical professionals and hospitals.
The organization is a combination of three sickle cell organizations that merged July 1, 2008. The three organizations that merged to form Sickle Cell Association of Richmond – OSCAR are:

Organization of Sickle Cell Anemia Resources, Inc. (OSCAR) incorporated in 2004

Sickle Cell Anemia Resource Fund, Inc. (SCARF) incorporated in 1987

Virginians Associated For Relief From Sickle Cell Anemia, Inc. (VARSCA) incorporated in 1972
Effective September 6, 2017, “LIVING with Sickle Cell RVA, Inc.”, a non-profit community organization (Formed and incorporated in 2016), also merged with Sickle Cell Association of Richmond – OSCAR.
Shared Goal
To encourage patients to share experiences about what works for each individual in terms of diet, medication, pain management, pain partners, stress management and the psycho-social aspects of having Sickle Cell Diseases to gain feelings of empowerment and to dispel the Sickle Cell Myths.
Shared Mission Statement
To educate the public, implement service programs, encourage support for research and empower persons who live with Sickle Cell Disease and advocate on their behalf.
